Biography
Siegel has been involved in folk music ever since. But to call him, "just a folk singer" would be short changing his talent. Sure, he's been asked to accompany some well known folk performers, like Steve Goodman, John Prine, Bob Gibson, Jo Mapes, Josh White, Sr., Merle Travis, Jim Post, and Fred Holstein (who gave Norm his nickname). And he can sing American, British, Irish, Yiddish, Hebrew, and Russian folk songs with ease. But Siegel also sings and plays Broadway and movie tunes, country and western songs, English and Irish music hall songs, novelty and other comedy songs, and campfire songs. He's also been a member of a rock and roll band or two. And he sings in whatever style is appropriate, from warm vocal treatments, to a drawl laden country accented sound, and most stops in between.
In addition to being a vocalist and a well respected guitar and bass instrumentalist, Norm Siegel has also provided sound for concerts, venues, and recordings. He was running the house sound on Jim Post's live, in concert recording I Love My Life.
Over the years Norm Siegel has been featured either as a solo performer or accompanist at many well known venues. And being able to sing and play music of many genres served him well when he was a teacher at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, Illinois.
Today you'll find Norm concentrating on doing more solo performances in and around the Chicagoland area. But travel is not out of the question if an opportunity arises. And he's still available for doing work as a side man either for performances or recordings. Why not contact him right now and ask to join his e-mail list? And check NormSiegel.com often to find out where he'll be and what he's doing.
